$25 000 to address the urgent need of setting the basis for an integrated management plan and long term programs for protection and conservation of the Historical Monuments of Mtskheta in Georgia – this amount was allocated by the World Heritage Centre, UNESCO unit, through its international assistance.
The National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia will implement the project and co-finance it with $4 000. To this end a multidisciplinary group of national experts lead by Dr. Jukka Jokilehto will be set. The project will prepare necessary conditions for removing the Historical Monuments of Mtskheta from the World Heritage in Danger List where this WHS was inscribed in 2009.
The activities envisaged by the project implies implementation of the recommendations of the WH Committee and advisory bodies such as definition of the Outstanding Universal Value of the site, clarification of the boundaries and improved coordination among national and local authorities and the Patriarchate of Georgia in the process. The project will facilitate consolidation of the Georgian government efforts and will foster the awareness of the World Heritage values and UNESCO principles.
