A partners’ meeting will take place at WATCH (World Association for the protection of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage in times of armed conflicts) Head Office in Rome, Italy, from March 26th through 28th, 2012 within the framework of the WAR FREE WORLD HERITAGE LISTED CITIES project.
The project addresses problems of Governance in ancient and historic urban areas listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List endangered in times of crisis and armed conflict. This initiative coordinated by WATCH is designed and co-financed within the EC ENPI CIUDAD programme and it is currently being implemented by a partnership led by the Council of the United Municipalities of Byblos (Lebanon), together with the Head of the Board of the City of Mtskheta (Georgia) and WATCH, toghether with their associate partners, the Friends of Cultural Heritage Society – FOCUH (Turkey) and the Network per il Restauro Avanzato – NEREA (Italy).
The partners’ meeting will focus on: A review of the contents of the second interim report concerning the project implementation; the preparation and launch of public awareness campaigns due in Lebanon and Georgia; The first multilingual – English, Arabic and Georgian – issue no.4 of the project Newsletter; The coordination of the other activities planned for the third year of project implementation; Contributions and actions required to secure the achievement of the project expected results which include among others the prodution and publication of Risk Preparedness Plans for the two World Heritage Listed sites of Byblos and Mtskheta. An updated calendar of activities will be circulated online www.warfreeheritage.net for the interested target groups and stakeholders as well as for the wider public.
